Spring x Rowery Embassy

Spring in Warsaw can only mean one thing, it's time to get on an Embassy Bike and explore the city. I love the colours, smells and the atmosphere that touches this city when Spring is in full bloom. After the grey winter days, green trees and blue skies are ever so refreshing. Therefore taking my bike on a ride down river paths and city parks, is definitely one of my absolute spring must do's. My personal choice for this task is this beautiful rose gold piece known as their Goldie Deluxe Model. What about you? Which bike will fit you? Find your unique model at Embassy Bikes. Make sure to have a browse of their beautiful pieces :)

In the past months, quite a few people have messaged me with the question about how I manage to find time for blogging and my Medical degree. I thought this would be an interesting topic to touch upon, hence I decided to write a short post talking about how all of this came about and how I have managed to make it work so far.

I think that it would be useful to start from the beginning. For years I have always loved the creative world and whether it was playing piano, art lessons, acting workshops or studying film - I was always exposed to the creative world in some way. Nonetheless, academic subjects were always in the equation and as a person who loved both, I always had to balance my life appropriately in order to fit all of my interests. At 18, choosing one degree upon which I can focus on was definitely a huge challenge - I am not really a person who likes narrowing my options and after completing IB, I felt they opened up even more instead of narrowing. This was one of the reasons why I chose the IB over the traditional A- Level Exams.  During the IB course I instantly fell in love with Philosophy and the nature of arguments hence I proceeded to embark upon a BA in Philosophy in Leuvne, Belgium. Leuven was an amazing place to study at with its philosophical and theological roots stretching back to hundred of years! However after a year of studying there I went through a complete career change and ended up coming back to my homeland to study Medicine. That didn't necessary mean this was the only career choice I wanted to focus on but I was definitely fascinated by the workings of the human body and wanted to know more.

I'll be honest - I never was (& never will be) the sort of person who knows from the beginning "I am going to be a surgeon." or "I am going to be a GP." In a way I do and don't envy the people that pre-empt their careers like that. It's much more reassuring to know your path but I genuinely love risk and the flexibility given by not setting a rigid boundary gives me the idea of freedom that I really appreciate in life. Until this day I am still not 100% sure what is my next step but that's what makes it exciting!

My first 3 years of Med School were absolutely manic - I was super busy and my days were filled with classes that lasted all day long. My year was the first year which had a changed program - a lot of subjects from 5&6th year were moved down in order to make my program into a 5 year program. It was all very jam packed. As you can imagine - I hardly had time to eat and lost loads of weight from subconscious stress that came out of wanting to meet deadlines, pass exams without retakes and the want to still sustain a social life. I have always been very ambitious and have strived for the best whenever I could. My perfectionistic nature which is a blessing and a curse in one, didn't always help - I put a lot of extra strain on myself that wasn't exactly necessary. Holidays were key and the fact that I planned to use them on tropical travel, definitely gave me a lot of motivation hence I really pushed myself in subjects such as Anatomy, Biochemistry and other basic sciences that were intense in the first years. Ever since I was a little girl, living by the ocean and learning to surf has been my long dream and I didn't want my career choice to compromise that. I wanted to make it all work - and I did. I made a lot of memorable trips in the past years across various continents, collecting wonderful experiences and meeting great people. I have always been good with time management between my studies and travel - that definitely helped!

In my free time (which was very scarce) I started blogging, however I felt like it never really got anywhere. The minute I started a fashion blog, I begun to be interested in cooking and it was hard to focus upon one theme which seemed to be a trend with bloggers at that time. I would say that the "on and off" blogging was definitely fundamental in finding "my space" in the blogosphere as well as on Instagram. However, it wasn't until the fourth year of Med School that I finally found out what I would like to focus on when posting - and it turned out to be everything. I realised that showing a fraction of my personality just wasn't me and this is how CHAT BLANC came about to exist. My fourth year was severely calmer than the early years. With basic sciences out the way and Pharmacology as well as Pathomorphology passed the stress level came back to normal and I finally had something I had very little of before - time. Blogging along with travelling and exercise became my hobby and it was a way to express myself in a creative way - something not quite easily done in academic Medicine. Furthermore, time management now was less of a challenge. With more clinical subjects - I could finally use the academic knowledge I gained and use in it clinical scenarios across various departments in the hospital without it eating too much into my time outside of the hospital.

After being contacted by various brands, I begun collaborating on occasional projects. This made my motivation towards blogging grow and really made me feel that my work was appreciated - it felt amazing! What more, it was very fulfilling especially because I was an absolute newbie in the industry. I got really lucky because my first collaboration was with Billabong - one of my favourite brands that I continue to work with until this day.

Concluding, it is possible to do many things and not just one - you just need to want to do it. I know, that's what everyone says - but it's hella true. Time management is key but the truth is you'll make it work if you can and are willing to do so. I guess that in my case my creative background was something that helped me find motivation and time, even when there was very little of it. I cannot speak for all Medical Students because I know that the curricula and schedules look completely different from country to country. It could be the case that your workload is evenly spread throughout the 6 years making it a little tricky to find time in the end of your studies (like me) - especially if blogging is not your primary interest. However saying that, I have seen quite a few students and practicing physicians from around the world who are bloggers. I guess where there is a will there're a will hey?!

Thanks for reading,

Maria x

WHITE HOOD

Wow! It has been a while guys - but I'm back for now. I successfully finished V year of Med School so I'll have more time to dedicate to the site over the next couple of months. So yeah, sorry for laying low! However here is a most recent post for some inspiration. Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed this shoot. Shout out to @delsolarein for taking shots that came out perfect!

It cannot be denied - old school streetwear is definitely making a comeback. Not only has street clothing been successfully revived in the world of high fashion by brands such as Vetements or Off White but also from the creation of many up and coming niche independent street wear designers. With the mixing of fashion and trends - street style has reached a point of no limit. Oversized cuts, mismatched prints, shirts worn as dresses...There is room for designers, influencers and newcomers. Some stick with the masses, others carve their own path - either way you can't say this trend hasn't been an original one..

With this in mind, I recently stopped by my local skate shop. Whilst browsing tees and hoodies instore, I simply couldn't resist this DGK one. I loved the print, the detailed lettering on the arm, plus with my recent white obsession - it was a definite must have.  I have always been a bit of a tomboy and sucker for the designs that many skate brands carry so in fashion all things sneaker, street style and skate related really catch my eye. No wonder that with the shop keepers quick thought of wearing this hood as a dress - I decided to make a purchase of it & that's how this shoot came about..

WARSAW TOP 5 NOW

Guys! I finally managed to get round to finishing up my top 5 in Warsaw list. You all are well aware that I am an absolute fiend when it comes to a good brekkie or a quick tasty coffee..or genuinly just something absolutely different and out of the ordinary. Here are my favourite places which are an absolute must if you're in town & crave something that's good!

JUICE PRESS PEOPLE
Bracka 18, 00-001 Warszawa
The most recent newcomer that is very rapidly taking over the city! These days we like eating good, quick & healthy and Juice Press People helps us with just that! This newly opened spot, located right in the city centre serves up delicious cold pressed juices, creative canapés, oatmeals, smoothie bowls and naturally - very good barrista coffee..whether a matcha latte or a quick espresso is your crave - this is the place to go! The varied menu offers good options whether sweet or savoury is your thing - my personal favourite is the avocado & olives on sourdough - simple but yummy is their thing and they are never short of new ideas with their ever growing menu! On top of this the cute decor and friendly staff makes you feel like you've never left home - what more could you want on those early Monday mornings? Don't have time to come in? - that is definitely not a problem as all of their tasty juices and coffees are also available for take away - yes, that includes the cakes too..

RAJ W NIEBIE
Nowy Świat 21, 00-029 Warszawa

With Sushi slowly becoming passé, this hotspot houses the next big thing- that is Poke! No, it has nothing to do with Pokemon - Poke (pronounced Po-Kaay) is a traditional rice bowl with marinated ahi tuna (or any other desired fish) served up in a lovely bouquet of tropical fruits and veggies. Raj w Niebie is the first restaurant in town to offer this Hawaiian delicacy and they have timed this entree perfectly. The Poke bowls here come in four different flavours accompanied by a generous dose of fresh fruits & vegetables.  Not only is the food delightlful, but its not to too heavy on the stomach whilst filling you right up. With the rich plant dominated interior & the backdrop of an oldschol theater this place really makes you like you're transformed into a tropical sanctuary. Their heavenly oatmeal also needs to be given a try along with many, many other dishes on the menu - all created with a Hawaiian twist.

STOR
Tamka 33, 00-355 Warszawa

'Life is too short to drink bad coffee' and the baristas at STOR definitely help us live up to that mantra. Watch the life of Warsaw happen as you stare out of this cafe, located close to the Vistula river, right in Warsaws' Powiśle district. STOR cafe and restaurant is your local "to go to" artisan coffee & tea place. In their high ceiling interior, they serve up a really good coffee with a touch backdrop concept food store. Inside, you can eat a wholesome breakfast and even purchase high quality teas & tea/coffee making utensils Their craftily made cakes and pastries definitely are tempting as are their individually made porridge oat/rice oat combinations - that also cater for vegans & vegetarians. Don't forget to try their signature donuts & macaroons, you won't be disappointed!

HEALTHY AS HELL
Koszykowa 59/36 (entrence in the couryard) ring the intercom, 00-660 Warszawa

We all know that Vegan dishes are the simply best - and after paying a visit to Healthy as Hell a couple weeks ago, I was reasured of that yet again! This all vegan restaurant, tucked among the pre-war town houses on Koszywkowa street is irresistibly charming in its ways. The small, cosy space definitely makes you feel comfortable and welcome, which is definitely on top of my hangout criteria. On top of this their salad menu idea is great and let's you get creative in your lunch break -  simply tick the ingredients you like & you'll end up with your very own personalised salad - which is not only extremely nutritious but an amazing flavour party for the taste buds! Their coffee cannot be faulted either as can't their desserts - which are definitely on par with Londons vegan game. So whether you are a devoted vegan or just want to try something innovative  and different, make sure to drop by!

WERANDA BISTRO
Koszykowa 63, 00-667 Warszawa

With the opening of Warsaws' first Food Hall - a restaurant from the pack has got to be included in this list. Hala Koszyki, located just down the road from the vegan spot mentioned above very quickly became Warsaws' new favourite hangout. With roots that stem from a series of spots in Poznań, the Weranda Family group of restaurants and cafes is no stranger in the Polish culinary scene.  Hence it comes with no surprise that every time I walk past the Weranda Bistro, I fail to find it empty - it is always buzzing with company! Whether it is a calmer Saturday morning or a busy Friday night - the rustic decor and the open kitchen lure you inn and give a sense of authenticity to a highly enjoyable restaurant experience. What more - their menu is a great mixture of traditional dishes with a modern twist  - this bistro for sure will satisfy the pickiest of eaters (including me). I loved the vast breakfast options that included croissants, eggs and porridge dishes - my top three absolute menu essentials when it comes to brekkie choices. Oh and they 'juice' too, so if you're a juice addict you'll come out of there happy too. Just be quick - Hala Koszyki gets busy quick so reservations are often necessary!

Bon Appetit!

Fall style x Femi Pleasure

As you can see thanks to Femi Pleasure I'm still fighting the case for the tropics - even in the polish winter..
It is no secret that I am absolutely in love with this tropical leaf print jacket..I enjoy styling it with chunky knits like this one..it's practical, warm and yet retains an effortless vibe to an outfit.

Femi Pleasure is a polish brand that caters for active, energetic & thrill seeking women who love sports! Whether on land or water, this brands' original design definitely isn't dull.  Each collection is produced in limited amounts from good quality fabrics that hold funky designs. Be quick as stock is limited & it tends to go super FAST.

Finally, I'm sure I'm not the only one to say that - as much as I absolutely adore winter time, I do often feel like the harsh weather (especially in countries like Poland), poses a challenge to personal style.. You often end up resorting to chunky goose down jackets and style/fashion takes a stepback into the shadows (as it rightfully should do when it's -20 outside!) As a lover of personal expression, this anonymity does tend to be quite frustrating but thanks to brands like Femi Pleasure, we can oppose this phenomena & with a parka like this one we don't have to compromise anymore!!
